Natural Remedies to get rid of Toenail Fungus

Clean nails bear the identity of a good personality. Clear, healthy white nails, be it on your toenails or your fingernails, increase your confidence level. But Fungus can be your enemy. Yes, nail fungus is very dirty and unpleasant things to deal with. Fungus can effect on both toe nails and fingernails. It is officially known as onychomcosis.  It is mostly happened when moisture is trapped in a warm dark place. This is why fungus attacks mostly on toenails. Sometimes it can be caused by mold, or yeast.

 

What Does It Look Like?

Normally a nail fungal infection starts off on the nail-tip as a as a white or yellow spot. When the infection increases, the nail becomes thickened, brittle, crumbly or ragged. The shape of the nails change, become darker in color, and get dull. Sometimes the nail gets separate from the nail bed, it is called onycholysis. This situation is quite uncomfortable. Toenail fungus can cause you indefinitely if you go on without treatment.

But you can easily get rid of these dirty things simply following some remedies.

 

1. Tea Tree or Orange Oil Rub

 

Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic. It contains fungicidal and anti-bacterial properties that are helpful in treating toenail fungus. Orange oil gives promising results to get rid of fungus. Always dilute the essential oil before applying to the nail.

Things you need…
– tea tree oil- 1 teaspoon
– orange oil (optional) – 1/2 teaspoon
– grape seed or olive oil- 1/2 teaspoon
-Cotton balls

 

How to use:
As soon as you notice the infection you should not delay for the remedy. Mix all the oils in a bowl. Steep a cotton ball in the mixture and apply the oil to the affected nail. Press it on gently and firmly so that the liquid comes out to the area. Leave it to dry naturally. Repeat it twice a day.

 

2. Baking Soda and Vinegar

Baking soda is not fungicidal. it does not kill the fungus but it can prevent fungus from growing and spreading. The reason it acts like this is because it is alkaline-the opposite of acidic. Using vinegar would be a good idea to kill nail fungus. As it is a fairly weak acid, it will help to combat the fungus without altering the Ph level.

Things you need
– baking soda- 4-5 tablespoons
– white vinegar or apple cider vinegar- 1 cup

-Water- as need
-A bowl to soak your feet in
-Paper towels

 

How to use:
Firstly, mix 1 cup of vinegar of your choice with enough water and soak your feet in. After 15 minutes, leave the water away and pat dry your feet with paper towels. You can add several tablespoons of baking soda to the water. Do this twice a day. The vinegar will help to kill off the fungus, and the baking soda will then prevent the growth of fungus.

 

3. Coconut Oil

Tea tree oil or apple cider vinegar, you can simply just go for the coconut oil. Yes, you heard me right. Coconut oil can be your best friend in this case because Medium chain fatty acids work almost as a miracle. They work as natural fungicides.

You will need
-A few drops of coconut oil
-Gloves /a sink and soap for washing hands between applications

 

How to use:
Take a few drops of coconut oil and rub onto the affected area and let it absorb and dry naturally. There is no need to use a lot of oil at a time rather a thin layer will do. Repeat 2-3 times daily to get best result. You can wear gloves or wash your hands if you are not fond of sticky oil.

 

4. External Care

Toes are always neglected. Because of being in shoes where it’s dark and moist, they don’t get a proper blood circulation. To take advance care to prevent fungus attack  soak  your  feet once or twice a day in hot water mixed with a cup of Epsom salt or sea salt.

Moreover give your feet a good scrub daily. You can use Guasha which is a combination of bicarbonate of soda and alcohol. You can use it to cleanse your entire body when you shower.

5. Internal Cleanse

You should always look for internal causes of external problems. Because of having an acidic diet of processed foods, toxins builds up in the body and can accumulate in the feet and shows up causing gout or toe nail fungus and the like. You should include that type of food that increases circulation.

Fruits and vegetables in fresh salads will help to alkalize your body and they strip out toxic acids. A diet should contain 70 to 80 percent fresh, raw foods. Green smoothie can be a great way to get the fresh stuff that you need. You can have a smoothie by blending celery, cucumber, and apple along with bananas and dates. Add some water or coconut water to make the cleansing drink more useful to your digestive system. Exercise daily will also help.

But if you’ve already suffered from unhealthy flesh feeding fungus, you’ll probably need more purification and detoxification. You should do a colon cleanse because a backed-up colon can add toxicity to the kidneys, liver, and bloodstream, in other words to your whole body. After you clean, the lymphatic system will start detoxifying instead of adding toxicity.

You can prevent nail fungus by keeping your feet clean and dry. Don’t re-wear socks, and try to put on open toed shoes. It will take time and patience to get rid of toenail fungus, and for the nail to grow back healthy and normal again if once infected. Be conscientious about taking your treatments and follow preventative methods to keep the fungus from coming back.
